Teaching Spelling Reflection

Help Your Kid Ace The Next Spelling Test

Teaching spelling is just as important as it used to be- if anything, I believe that it is even more so. More words are being read and written than ever. Before this topic, I didn't realize that reading and writing fluency requires proficiency in spelling. When children say the sounds of the words/letters in the order in which they appear, they can write the words out. Sounding out the words is a very important step towards reading comprehension. In fact, when children are able to sound out words and are able to spell, they will most likely be a successful reader. In addition, research shows learning to sound out words has a powerful effect on reading comprehension. Overall, spelling is very important for numerous reasons.
